New European framework to prevent malaria reintroduction [WHO] — (English)
The WHO Regional Office for Europe has released its Regional framework for prevention of malaria reintroduction and certification of malaria elimination 2014-2020. The document provides guidance to ministries of health on how to prevent reintroduction of the disease and details the certification process. In 2012, there were 235 confirmed cases in the European region, of which 218 were reported from Turkey. Three countries – Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Turkey – are presently in elimination phase, while Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are in prevention of reintroduction phase...

En 2013, le Sénégal a expérimenté un modèle combiné innovant, en testant l'utilisation simultanée de plusieurs circuits pour la distribution continue de moustiquaires imprégnées d'insecticide longue-durée (LLIN). De février à août 2013, les structures sanitaires, les organisations communautaires de base et les écoles des régions de Louga et de Zinguinchor ont distribué 102 869 moustiquaires, gratuites ou moyennant une modeste contribution des beneficiaries. La multiplicité des circuits a permis d'élargir et de rendre plus abordable l'accès aux moustiquaires. Les partenaires ont apprécié l'utilisation de structures existantes et la formation de liens multisectoriels au cours de l'expérience...
