Malaria Policy Advisory Committee to convene on 10–12 September [WHO / GMP] — (English)
The next MPAC meeting will take place on 10-12 September. The Committee will review progress on the implementation of the Global plan for insecticide resistance management, assess the feasibility of malaria elimination in the Greater Mekong Subregion, and discuss gaps in current WHO guidance on how countries can accelerate towards elimination. The agenda also includes a discussion on the new malaria treatment guidelines (under development) and the control of residual malaria transmission by behaviourally resistant vectors. The MPAC will also hear updates from technical expert groups, and on the process of developing the post-2015 technical strategy for malaria...

In nonimmune populations, artemisinin-induced P. falciparum clearance is related to pitting and starts after a 6-hour lag phase. This mechanism may mitigate the emergence of artemisinin-resistant P. falciparum in Africa...
