White House Launches New Strategy for U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative; Re-commits Efforts for Elimination

Government leaders and key development stakeholders gathered at the White House this morning to celebrate progress made against malaria through the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI)and to launch the program’s new strategy from 2015 to 2020. Highlighting U.S. commitment to malaria control and elimination, this strategy builds on successes that countries have achieved with PMI support, incorporates lessons learned from implementation of life-saving interventions and addresses existing challenges that threaten continued progress toward elimination.

Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) celebrates its 15th anniversary

Product development partnership MMV met this week in Siem Reap, Cambodia for its 13th Stakeholders’ Meeting and celebrated fifteen years of harnessing public and private sector to produce affordable solutions to defeat malaria.

African Leaders adopt Malaria Elimination Scorecard 2030

The African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) forum at the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government took place on January 31 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During the forum, African leaders adopted the malaria elimination agenda and several African countries were recognized for their progress in malaria control.

10th Annual RBM VCWG focuses on Insecticide Resistance and future architecture of the RBM Partnership


Participants in the 10th annual Vector Control Working Group meeting on 28-30 January exceeded 200 and engaged in robust discussion on emerging technical and political issues, the 2015 work plan, and the future structure of the RBM Partnership.

PMI Statement on Misuse of Bednets from Rear Adm. Tim Ziemerpi


On January 24, 2015, The New York Times published an important story by Jeffrey Gettleman, their East Africa Correspondent, on fishermen using bednets in lakes and rivers in Kenya titled Meant to Keep Malaria Out, Mosquito Nets are Used to Haul Fish In.
