Price of ACT Coartem reduced by third (29 September)
Novartis has announced an immediate reduction of Coartem to an average price of US$1.00 compared with $I.57 thanks to dramatic increase in production capacity and increased availability of the natural ingredient artemisinin. Deliveries of Coartem have climbed from 4 million treatments in 2004 - and based on orders at hand will reach a milestone of 50 million treatments by the end of October 2006.

7th Meeting of the RBM Partnership Malaria in Pregnancy (MIP) Working Group (10-12 October, Nigeria)
The seventh meeting of the RBM Malaria in Pregnancy Working Group, chaired by WHO's Dr Juliana Yartey, looked at ways to strengthen collaboration among sub-regional networks (SRNS) for the prevention and control of malaria in pregnancy and develop the 2006-2007 workplan.
Unite against Malaria Luncheon Hosted by the World Bank (26 October, Washington D.C.)
International music sensation Yvonne Chaka Chaka (UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Malaria) has joined with the Roll Back Malaria Partnership to focus increased attention on bringing malaria under control in Africa.
The Unite Against Malaria Luncheon is an opportunity to engage African ambassadors to the US in promoting increased attention to malaria control within the US, within their respective countries, and within the international community, and to encourage a greater transparency and accountability at all levels of malaria control.

Youth Against Malaria Concert (29 October, USA)
Youth from around the world who attended the UN Global Youth Leadership Summit in New York (Oct 29-31), have dedicated themselves to better understand malaria and become advocates in the fight against the disease. A Youth United Against Malaria Gala Concert and a roundtable discussion inspired delegates to focus their energies on malaria control as a means to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
